| (a) The hearing officer may grant a postponement of a hearing for good cause at a party's request. Except in emergencies or unusual circumstances confirmed by a telephone call or other means, no postponements shall be granted within two days of the scheduled hearing. (b) A continuance of a hearing may be ordered at the discretion of the hearing officer if: (1) there is insufficient evidence upon which to make a decision; (2) a party needs additional time to examine evidence presented at the hearing; (3) the hearing officer considers it necessary to enter into evidence additional information or testimony; (4) an in-person hearing is necessary for proper presentation of the evidence; or (5) any other reason deemed appropriate by the hearing officer. (c) The hearing officer shall advise the parties of the reason for the continuance and of any additional information required. At the continuance, the parties shall have an opportunity to rebut any additional evidence. |
